Center Based After School Program is scheduled to start in Fall 2010
|
|
|
Our after school program for children 11 years and older provides a variety of fun, adaptive activities including arts and crafts, music and
movement, creative cooking, outdoor play, homework help, and more. A safe and supportive atmosphere for children with special needs, our
program makes significant use of visual support materials, provides structured opportunities for children to expend physical energy, and providing
positive opportunities for children to be themselves and have their basic needs met.

- Quality staffing – Our staff are trained to work with children with disabilities, including communication difficulties,
developmental delay, and physical/medical needs, such as G-tubes.
- Low staff to student ratios – At a 1:5 ratio, our staff are able to provide individual attention to students.
- Movement and exercise – After a long day at school, kids need expend excess energy. Some children with special needs can
have more energy than others. Our program provides structured and unstructured play activities.
- Strong involvement of families – We care about what parents and families want in an after-school program for their children.
We rely on parents to educate us about their children, including therapy and personal goals, individual strengths, likes, and dislikes, and
what works best in interacting with each child. We rely on parents to help us plan fun, relevant activities for their children.
- Coordinating with the regular school day – We find that communicating with teachers and therapists can help us better serve
each child, and help him/her reach goals and maintain gains.
